Tribute Flight - Gorlitz to Spremberg Welzow: Part 1

Post by mthrift » 14 Apr 2019, 22:56

As a small thanks to Otmar for the Vega, here are some screenshots of a flight I made from Gorlitz (EDBX) to Spremberg Welzow (EDCY). Pretty country, and more water than I would have expected!

Haha that's awesome, what a thoughtful idea! Yes, we have some interesting landscape over here, and a very pretty town as well, though it has a bit of a morbid charm.

Where did you get the airfield scenery from?

Thanks Otmar. I hoped you'd enjoy it.

That's a great photo. Looks really nice, and not at all like where I live here in Texas! We had the pleasure of taking a trip last summer along the Rhine and loved that. We hope to make it farther east before too long.

I have Orbx Germany (both North and South) installed on my system. The Gorlitz airfield is part of the Orbx "base" region scenery. Orbx adds at least a little additional detail to all the airfields in their "full fat" regions. It's really nice!

Regards,
Michael

Hey Michael,
That's funny, I have both of those regions installed and never noticed that Görlitz (don't forget the Rock-dots!) was included. I mostly fly in California lately, since that's where the Vega is from.

Yeah, the character of the cities is definitely very different in the old world. Görlitz is a strange place though, compared to cities like Cologne or Heidelberg. It's a weird mix of ancient, run-down with a hint of socialism - being close to the border to Poland. It can be extremely pretty, but at times feels a tad desperate as well.

Ah yes, the missing umlaut. Apologies for my laziness!

We have cities like you describe here as well. It can be strange to think about cities and towns having "lives" with different phases, just like people, and can be sad to see a place that was once thriving reduced to much less, after its livelihood moves on to someplace new. We have many such cities in what's known as the US "rust belt".

Interesting that you have been flying in California. I also made my first flight in your Vega from California, in a nod to its history. I gather the original Lockheed testing field no longer exists, so I have been flying out of KBUR Bob Hope/Burbank. It seemed the closest to the original.
