Oil issues

OK. So I deleted data.dat and started afresh. I left KMKC for KABQ and halfway through the flight the oil pressure light comes on again. This time instead of zero pressure, it's too high. Off the scale in fact. But the oil temperature is 0 What did I do this time?

After deleting the data file, did you refill the oil using the walk-around?

I changed some aspects of the oil system in v0.85. Most notably in this context is that the oil cooler should be more proficient to prevent super-high temperatures. But the temperature control should prevent the temperature from dropping to 0!? It seems to me that there is something else wrong in this case...
When this happens, could you please open the debug panel (shift+9) got to the lubrication page and check the values displayed for the various components to find out what's wrong? It's very likely that the tank, for some reason, is empty again and as a result all the variables get set to 0.
You could narrow the problem down for me by investigating how to reproduce it.

Yes. I after deleting the files I did the walk around. I went flying and the light came on. I ignored it because it was off the scale showing too high and zero temp. After ignoring it the indications reversed. And switched to high temperature and zero pressure. So I landed and I am now on the ground on the border of Kansas and Oklahoma where I have done the walk around and refilled the oil again.

Is the cylinder head temperature very high as well?

Here is it happening again last night. Tried again this morning and had the same thing happen.

It looks as if you're running out of oil, for some strange reason....
Did you start the engine with "Ready to Fly"?

Nope. Hand started it.

I'm having trouble reproducing the problem. I filled up the oil before start, did a "ready to fly" and am now in the air for about an hour. I set some extreme conditions with +40C OAT.
My indication is rather the opposite from what you get - the oil is now at around 58 degrees and thus quite thin, oil pressure ~30psi. I really want to help you with this problem, since this will become a major pain in the butt with v0.9, but I don't really know how you got to this point.

I got very much the same behavior with the oil as GRizzlyAir did. On the debug panel I found (when parked with the engine off an oil pressure of 102795pa (see attached screenshot)

Keep in mind that the pressure in the debug panel is the absolute pressure, the 102,000 Pascal are merely the ambient pressure. It's 1002 mbar, equivalent to around 30 inHg. So this indication on the ground is to be expected, although I should be more precise in the wording of the debug panel... :?

That being said, I get occasional reports of issues with the oil pressure, so if there's something fishy, it's not you, but it appears to be on my end. Now, the issue is that I wasn't able to reproduced this issue, and unless I can reproduce it, it's really difficult for me to find out what's going wrong. I performed a few long-haul flights and never ran across this problem.

My gut feeling is that at some point through the flight the oil tank runs dry and that "0" in the system is causing havoc in my algorithms. For the moment, this is not really an issue, since the simulation of the lubrication system has no impact on the aircraft, but we really need to find out what's causing it, otherwise you'll be dooooooomed once 0.90 is out
